The COVID-19 pandemic has amplified the value of urban agriculture, especially that produced in community gardens, as many New Yorkers faced increased food insecurity and nearly all sought refuge in outdoor spaces. Yet, despite the great value of urban agriculture, New York City lacks a comprehensive plan to promote it and many community gardens are under threat. At this upcoming event, speakers will assess the state of urban agriculture in New York City and policies that should be developed to help it thrive.

Speakers:

Nicole Baum, Director of Business Development and Partnerships, Gotham Greens

Aziz Dehkan, Executive Director, New York City Community Gardens Coalition

Iyeshima Harris, Program Director, East New York Farms!

Surbhi Sarang, Associate Attorney, Earthjustice

Rick Elbaum (LLM ’20), Board Member, Scenic Hudson (moderator)
