Shehla Chowdhury
Legal Fellow (2025-26)
Shehla is a Legal Fellow at the Guarini Center at New York University School of Law. Her current research focuses on local climate law and policy. Shehla recently received a J.D. from Yale Law School, where her courses and clinical work focused on the intersections of human rights law and environmental justice. Shehla also holds a B.A. in Political Science and a B.S. in Society & Environment from the University of California, Berkeley.
Prior to law school, Shehla worked as a research associate at the Environmental Law Institute in Washington, D.C. There, she completed research projects focused on topics including conflict-sensitive conservation, improving monitoring and evaluation methodologies for international environmental peacebuilding projects, and local government compliance with federal environmental regulations. As part of this work, Shehla served as the administrator for the Environmental Peacebuilding Association as well as the U.S. EPA’s Local Government Environmental Assistance Network.
