SUMMARY:Urban Biodiversity: A Transatlantic Dialogue on the Role of Cities in Promoting Global Biodiversity Goals
DESCRIPTION:Though seemingly at odds with one another\, a wide variety of living organisms and habitats exist in and around dense urban areas. With more than half of the world’s population now living in cities\, and the urban footprint steadily growing\, policymakers must think about how to protect the biodiversity that remains within urban areas and how to make our cities more hospitable to wildlife in the future. \nNext month\, the international community is scheduled to come together to discuss the future of the Convention on Biological Diversity. One of the key items that will be negotiated at the upcoming COP15 is the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. In advance of COP15\, join the Guarini Center and the German Consulate General in New York for a conversation with experts from New York City and Berlin to discuss the role of local governments in implementing global biodiversity targets\, including the ways in which cities can support biodiversity. \n  \nOPENING REMARKS \nBryce Rudyk\, Director\, International Environmental Law Program\, Guarini Center on Environmental\, Energy & Land Use Law \nPANELISTS \nDr. Georgina Cullman\, Ecologist\, NYC Department of Parks & Recreation \nDr. Dustin R.
