SUMMARY:The Renewed Interest in Nuclear Energy
DESCRIPTION:The federal government and states ranging from Tennessee to New York are interested in expanding the use of nuclear power. The motivations include satisfying rising demand for electricity\, lowering greenhouse gas emissions from the power sector\, and technological innovation in nuclear power. However\, there are also challenges\, including the costs of construction\, obtaining fuel supply\, nuclear waste\, and public concerns about the safety of nuclear power. \nAt this event\, Heather Payne will provide an overview of the renewed interest in nuclear power in the U.S. and the challenges and opportunities of nuclear power in the present moment. Katrina Wyman will then moderate a conversation about these topics with Tom Dougherty\, Erich Scherer and Heather Payne. Advanced registration is required.
